Craythorne's History
1863 - On this site, a sod hut with thatched roof and dirt floor was opened as an ale house run by Mary and William Craythorne. In an annex, behind this building, William brewed a draught ale from a recipe he brought with him from England. Mary opened the business, known by locals as Mother Craythorne's pub.
1871 - Tom Mullin's bought the business for 720 pounds and later replaced the sod hut with a two-storey hotel. This survived as the Halswel Junction Hotel until 1954 when it was partially burnt down.
2011 - The present proprietors, Brian and Ina Hall, enhanced this historical site by reinstating the business as a hotel with 12 ensuite guest rooms.
2013 - The 150th or sesquicentennial anniversary of there being a pub on this site.
